Senior women's basketball star Ashlee Ort has won the most recent installment of the Bethel College "Athlete of the Week." Ort has been a driving force for a Lady Pilots team that now sports an 8-2 record including 4-0 at home and 2-1 in Crossroads League play. She affects the game in a multitude of ways, and she can make her presence felt even when she isn't scoring at will. But watch out when she starts racking up the points. In the Lady Pilots’ first Crossroads League game of the season against Spring Arbor, Ort tied her career-high point total for a single game with 18 while shooting an astounding 8-16 from the field as well as 2-4 from behind the arc. She also had five rebounds and two assists. Since then, Ort has continued to shine. She scored 16 points in a road loss against Taylor University and then she showed her ability to stuff the stat sheet by posting eight points, five assists, seven rebounds and six steals against Holy Cross. Most recently, Ort tied for the team lead in points against Roosevelt University on Dec. 5 with 16. Up next, the Syracuse, Indiana native will help lead the Pilots as they take on St. Joseph’s College on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 2:00 P.M. Remember to vote for the Bethel College “Athlete of the Week” each week. Nominees are posted on the Athletic Announcements page of MyBethel. Then you may vote throughout the week, and make sure to check back in with the Beacon to see who won.
